In 2016, it is very easy to forget “who” you truly are and “why” you truly are.  There are so many minute “things” competing for your attention – money, fame, honor- daily.  The feeling of wanting to fit into society can be overwhelming, who am I kidding, it is very overwhelming.  It has the ability to rob you of what life really is and why you are here in the first place – making you to lose the sense of you and the real reason why everything exist in the first place.

why I choose God, faith, hope, love, peace, joy

This is why I choose God.

There has to come a point and time in your life where the regular hustle and bustle doesn’t cut it for you anymore.  It doesn’t make you happy and it takes too much of your time – for a lack of a better word – it becomes pure madness to you.

For the majority of my life, there has never been a time that I sat down to ask why am I even here?  Or why am I doing this?  Why am I getting this degree or even why do I have this job?  It wasn’t until I failed several times at what I thought I wanted that I begin to ask those questions, approximately 2 years ago.  I was trying to do it all by myself, when God wanted to help me out all along!  It’s in the answers of these questions, or lack of answers to those questions that I begin to truly understand my purpose and meaning.  It was in this turmoil that I began to truly search for God, Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  It was with the gaining of wisdom that I began to choose God – alone!

All of us were created for a reason and there is a purpose for us being here.  You are not a mistake and your destiny has been pre-planned by God.  Jer 1:5 states clearly that “before we were formed in our mother’s womb, He knew us.”  This means that we were definitely not a mistake as God never makes mistakes.  Even if your mom conceived you at a time she wasn’t ready or maybe she was very young, you were not a mistake.  God planned you.  He had a purpose for creating you at the time you were created.  To further emphasize, in Ps 139 the psalmist states the nature of our existence by saying “that even in the depths of your mother’s womb He knew you were there.”  Even before your mother knew you were there, God knew.  He was knitting you into perfection.  Desiring the best for you. In Jer 29:11 God again emphasizes that “for I know the thoughts that I think towards you….thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

That is the reason why it is very necessary that everyone, for themselves, understand why they are and for what they have been created and from where your help comes from.  Nothing God creates is just for the sake of creating, especially not a child!  The moment you can understand the why is the moment you understand the how.

For me as with many others, this took so long.  It was a season of trial and error.  I only wanted to please everyone and do what everyone wanted me to do.  I never consulted God.  I never asked God why and how He wanted me to do things.  I never really knew that there was a major purpose for why I was created when I was created.   I always did what others wanted me to do.  I concerned myself heavily with what my parents wanted, what society wanted, what my peers wanted.  And it got to a point that I was always doing, doing and doing, and unfortunately I was always failing, failing, FAILING.  Nothing ever worked!  No matter the energy that I put into it, I failed.  At everything!  EVERYTHING!  I still hadn’t chosen Christ!

I was knocked all the way down to the ground, on my knees, looking up to God. I had no choice but to choose God!

This was the moment I begin to put God first.  The moment I put Him first and acknowledge Him in everything was the moment things began to fall into place for me.  It is no wonder we are told in Prov 3:5-6 that we should “trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”  I found so much solace in this passage, so much hope knowing that God has a plan for me. He wants me to succeed but I have to be willing to yield to Him.

Have you yielded to God?  Have you sought His thoughts on the matter?

God is the playwright and we are the cast members.  The cast member can never know more than the writer.  And when we begin to think we know more, we do less.  And even if we do a lot or what we think to be a lot, it will never amount to anything – because God is not in the matter.

Today I want to share 5 reasons why I choose God!

  1. He is consistently consistent.

We are told in the Bible that “….beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” –2 Pet 3:8-9

I love this verse in the Bible because I know this all too well, just as many of you do.  There are things in our lives that we are waiting for.  We are hoping that they will come according to our time.  We place a time frame on it, when we want it and how we want it.  We even give a specific time limit to God of when said activity must take place in our lives or else!  Can you imagine?!?!  Many times we forget that we are dealing with a God that is not bound by time, that in fact, He supersedes time.  For we are told in the above passage that with God that one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day with the Lord.  God is not your servant friends, He is the master of the universe and the master of your life.  God can do anything that He wishes the way that He wishes.  You remember the story of Abraham in the Bible when God told him to leave His kindred.  He didn’t tell Abram (at the time that was his name) where He was sending Him.  He just told him to leave and He expected that he would obey.  When the time was right, God showed him the land that flows with milk and honey.  Not even for a second before then did He show it to him.

Or what about Paul!  Paul was born Saul and He was allowed to be a persecutor of the children of God.  He committed such heinous acts in the sight of God and at the right time the Master was shown to him and he lost his sight.  Look at Paul today friends, as the one person who penned two-thirds of the New Testament!

The Lord is always on time and never a second late.  To us, because we use our minute mind to think about God and what He is doing, we think that He is late.  2 Peter 3:8-9 shows and proves to us that He is not!

  1. He exist without the need for another being.

When you study religion, cults and sects, you will find that there exist hundreds of thousands gods.  When you study their nature, you will find that these gods exist either because they themselves were created by the ones worshiping them.  They do not exist on their own accord.  None of these miniature gods exist apart of a creator, they are all created and therefore are all the works of men.  But our God, exist because He himself is existence.  It is in Him that we as humans find our being, for without Him, we will not exist.  Think about it friends.  No matter where you are in the world, God exist for we are told in the book of John 1:1 “ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  He has been since the foundations of the world.  He is not humanly made.  The beginning part of Numbers 23:19 tells us that “God is not a man….”  So because of that we are assured that He exist all on His own.

why God is dependable, thisfaiththing, hope, love, restoration, faith, peace, joy

  1. He restores the lost.

For many years, as I have shared above, I was so lost and I didn’t know it.  I kept trying my luck with so many things all to no avail.  It wasn’t until I had the epiphany that “this can’t be what God wants for me” and that “I am actually lost” that I was restored.  I want to believe that I am still a work in progress but I can attest that fact that I have found God in a new way.  He has new meaning to me.  He brightens up my life.  He has restored me in so many ways more than I can count.  And He can do the same for you friends.

We hear of many ways God restores what’s lost to His children in society and even in the Bible.  The man that was at the Pool of Bethesda in John 5 was there for 38 years.  38 years of not being able to walk is not a minor thing.  But when Jesus met him there, He restored him and the Bible records that he was restored instantly.  The man was able to take up his bed and walk!  Or what about the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5: 25-34!  She has been having the equivalent of a period for 12 years straight – bleeding nonstop.  She visited so many doctors who all took her money and of course as you can imagine, she became lost.  She was confused of he situation and couldn’t make much of it.  Until she heard that Jesus would be passing by her neighborhood and she went.  She purposed in her heart that she must return restored and all she wanted to do was to touch the hem of His garment which she did.  And the Bible records in Mark 5:29 that “immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.”  Complete restoration of the lost!

  1. He alone has the ability to do and undo right from His throne in heaven.

I love this so much because our prayers is the communication between us and God in heaven.  No one has seen Him face to face but yet we are daily experiencing His mercy and faithfulness to us all.  God is able to answer us directly from His throne in heaven and we will feel and see His presence here on Earth.

When the children of Israel were held captive in Egypt, there were delivered by God in a very unique way.  In such a way that we have not seen it before that time nor after that time.  There arrived at the Red Sea in Exodus 14.  Of course you can imagine, they wanted to escape but this big body of water was hindering them from crossing.  But we deal with a God that can do the impossible.  In verse 21 of Exodus 14 we see that “Moses stretched out his hand over the sea and the Lord cause the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night and made the sea into a dry land and the waters divided.”  God made a passageway where there was no way so that His children could pass through!

God was able to do what no human mind could ever do right from His throne!  The powerful hand of God!

  1. He loved and loves me before I knew the meaning of love itself.

The ultimate description of love is was shown to us over 2000 years ago.  When God’s only Son walked up that mountain to be crucified for the sins we commit daily.  He became sin yet knew no sin!  He laid down His life for all of us so that through Him we will be able to be reconciled back to the Father in Heaven.

No matter what you are going through today friends, God loves you – and He loves you just the way you are.   You just have to be willing to accept Him, for that is the only way to have a relationship with him.  If you’ve tried several times to do this own your own and you’ve always failed then try God!  Choose God and He will never fail you!

So for this reason above and so much more, this is why I choose God – forever!  I will choose Him forever because He chose me.
